About the role
- Support, manage, inspire and grow a diverse team of 6 data and software engineers while ensuring smooth delivery and continuous improvements to business critical systems
- Ensure operational excellence of the services that are at the core of Zalando's vision of having industry leading product information available
- Manage dependencies, work closely with the product and applied science counterparts on solution planning, design and implementation
- Contribute to the overall department priorities, spearhead the documentation and learnings from incidents
- Ensure system-reliability engineering and technical compliance
Requirements
- Excellent experience in supporting architectural and design decisions in the team (such as data pipelines and REST services)
- Hands-on experience in managing teams across the engineering stacks required, in particular a track record in delivering and maintaining highly available production level API systems / data driven architectures / data engineering systems to use to gain insights from significant data loads
- Comfortable learning new technologies and systems, and helping the team to identify the right tool for the job
- Adept at collaborating with a product team, transforming customer issues into actionable solutions and working with them to navigate uncertainty to achieve a positive impact for customers
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to articulate complex technical topics and solutions in a concise and simple way
- Experience promoting inclusive culture practices and processes that are models for others
