About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Serve as a trusted music resource for company and franchise schools, answering day-to-day questions and providing remote and onsite support to new and struggling Music Directors.
- Onboard and coach new Music Directors; partner with Franchisee and General Managers and HR to interview, select, and develop Company school MD and Assistant MD candidates.
- Deliver GM music onboarding so Franchisees and General Managers can confidently lead their music programs.
- Run the music side of New School Openings (NSO): instructor training, programs and show director training, and mid-season check-ins, plus biweekly NSO office hours.
- Approve company owned school shows (three seasons per year) and summer camps, and lead the annual music assessment process for all schools.
- Host regular Music Office Hours and regional Music Director calls.
- Support international schools, including song licensing (Hal Leonard) and transcriptions for unique songs.
- Plan and deliver recurring Music Director training, General Manager training, and in-person Owner's Week sessions as assigned.
- Create, update, and maintain certification content and assessments in Practice Space (our staff training platform) across roles and programs; Instructor, Music Director, Show Director, Rock 101, Rookies, Little Wing, Adult Program, House Band, Songwriting, Recording & Production, AllStars, and future programs and trainings that may be developed in the future.
- Track Music Director training and certification across the system.
- Facilitate and host music-focused webinars and system-wide calls.
- Own music-related responsibilities for AllStars: advise on video, live, and online auditions; recruit local judges; consult on gear; manage song selection and casting; oversee decisions and team placement; manage performance schedules and House Bands; support music staff; be available to attend tours; and other duties as assigned.
- Support Summerfest: performance scheduling, setlists, House Bands, gear setup, stage management, executing the final event, and other duties as assigned.
- Contribute to Overdrive and other national or one-off events (e.g., Regional meetings, NAMM, Lollapalooza, ACL): create and facilitate breakout content, help plan and cast the jam, and other duties as assigned.
- Help manage and resolve Music Help Desk tickets quickly and accurately – these tickets can vary from topics related to music program execution and consultations, to troubleshooting access to resources, materials, and our Method App, to fielding feedback and issues related to our method tools and curriculum resources, and the like.
- Contribute to curriculum development and ongoing improvements to music training materials and program resources.
- Support the maintenance, adoption, and enhancement of the School of Rock Method (Method App, Method Books, and Method Engine): contribute content, flag and fix inaccuracies, and partner with the development team to troubleshoot.
- Support Featured Show and new show and song rollouts, including selection, resource development, adoption, and communication.
- Advise on sync licensing decisions and review website resource articles.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Successful gigging musician with formal music training or equivalent work experience.
- 5+ years teaching music and music ensembles.
- 3+ years experience as a Music Director with School of Rock strongly preferred, with deep familiarity and demonstrated adoption of the School of Rock Method and Method Tools (Method Books, Method Engine, Method App), and a track record of success on key music programming metrics such as program mix, student retention, AllStar selections, student count, and the like.
- Proven ability to coach, train, and develop a staff of Music Instructors.
- Knowledge of music theory and curriculum and program design.
- Strong organizational and project management skills; comfortable with project-based accountability and managing many priorities across many schools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and strong presentation and facilitation skills.
- Strong relationship skills; works well with Franchise Owners, General Managers, and Music Staff.
- Resourceful problem-solver who works well under pressure.
- Enthusiastic, flexible, patient, and positive, with sound judgment aligned with the company's mission and values.
- Comfort with our IT platforms (e.g., Pike13 and Practice Space) is a plus.
- Willingness to travel for national events, Owner's Week, and onsite school support as directed.
