About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Substitute teach ESOL, Career Advancement, and English for Immigrant Entrepreneurs classes for adults from diverse backgrounds
  • Survey and incorporate adult learner goals into student-centered, goal-oriented ESOL coursework
  • Develop lesson plans and deliver engaging, contextualized lessons integrating academic and employment skills using Massachusetts English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS)
  • Provide a safe and inclusive classroom environment that fosters language production
  • Select and adapt materials, educational apps, and web resources for Google Classroom and Zoom
  • Present clear content and language objectives for each class
  • Incorporate digital literacy skills into class content and coursework
  • Collaborate with the Education and Career Advisor on students' personal, education, and career goals
  • Conduct formative and summative assessments to evaluate student progress
  • Collaborate with peers on curriculum review, common planning, and program improvement
  • Communicate classroom and student issues to the Program Director
  • Maintain accurate and timely attendance records
  • Provide students with progress reports twice a year
  • Attend teacher meetings
  • Document weekly lesson plans in Google Drive

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Education background preferred
  • TESOL, TEFL, or TESL certificate preferred
  • Eligible to live and work in the United States
  • Sensitivity to socio-economic and ethnic minority issues
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills
  • Ability to participate in paid Professional Development
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and Zoom
  • Comfort learning and using web-based file storage such as Google Docs and SharePoint
  • Eagerness to contribute to a collaborative working environment
  • Bilingual ability is a plus
