About the role
- Cover Canadian power markets, with a focus on regulatory and policy activity in Ontario and Alberta.
- Monitor proceedings from IESO, AESO, utility commissions, and government agencies.
- Write clear, concise, and insightful articles for a professional, subscription-based audience.
- Develop sources and conduct interviews with regulators, market participants, and industry stakeholders.
- Attend (virtually and in person) regulatory meetings, technical conferences, and industry events.
- Work closely with editors to identify important developments and shape ongoing coverage.
- Track and report on broader trends, including energy transition, decarbonization, and resource adequacy.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or equivalent professional experience.
- 3+ years of reporting experience (energy, policy, business, or related beats preferred).
- Strong reporting and writing skills, with the ability to quickly produce accurate, engaging copy.
- Ability to understand and explain technical or policy-heavy material.
- Self-directed and comfortable working on deadline.
- Familiarity with energy regulation or power markets is a plus.
