About the role

Hands-on development of "full-stack" ranking, recommendation and content understanding systems that will power the next-generation of Yahoo News
Leverage third-party, open-source and in-house machine learning tools to build high-performing machine learning systems
Work collaboratively with cross-functional partners to leverage machine learning to improve Yahoo News for readers
Build state-of-the-art tooling for the editorial team
Productionize batch and online machine learning models and monitor production metrics
Adhere to Yahoo policies; exercise sound judgment; work effectively, safely and inclusively with others

Ability to explain technical concepts and collaborate effectively
Bias for action, curiosity and customer-focused
Industry experience productionalizing batch and online ML models
Knowledge of workflow orchestration solutions and opinions on best practices
Experience using and evaluating open-source and 3rd party MLOps solutions
Ability to formalize product problems, run reproducible offline experiments and analyze results
Strong written communication and data visualization skills
Experience with modern ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Jax)
Understanding of when research code vs production code is appropriate
Strong working knowledge of data engineering best practices & data warehousing concepts
Familiarity with software engineering principles, design patterns, and code quality practices
Previous working experience in Python and Java, Scala or Go
