About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Responsible for the safe, reliable, and consistent performance of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) facilities approaching 2GW by 2029
Supports new project commissioning and existing fleet-wide performance
Captures operational lessons learned and translates them into standardized design requirements, control strategies, and operational best practices
Works cross-functionally with Operations, SCADA, Engineering Teams, OEMs, and system operators
Resolves early-life issues and aligns plant behavior with interconnection requirements and market demands
Optimizes battery performance and minimizes degradation while considering operational and market obligations
Provides ongoing technical support for project activities within areas such as Operations, Maintenance, testing/diagnostics & Regulatory
Maintains communication with areas such as Supply Chain & Legal following appropriate processes
Responsible for continuous self-development of technical skills & competencies.

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor’s degree in engineering from ABET accredited
2+ years of relevant engineering experience for Staff Engineer level
Demonstrated broad knowledge & proficiency in specialty area
EIT/FE (Engineer in Training/Fundamentals of Engineering) strongly preferred for Staff Engineer level
Bachelor’s degree in engineering from ABET accredited curriculum required for Senior and Principal Engineer levels
5+ years relevant engineering experience with EIT/FE required for Senior Engineer level; 7+ years relevant engineering experience without EIT/FE
9+ years relevant engineering experience with PE (Professional Engineer) registration required for Principal Engineer level; 15+ years relevant engineering experience without PE
Experience developing or applying operational strategies for battery degradation management
Familiarity with OEM BESS systems (e.g., Sungrow, Tesla, or similar)
Experience with AC coupled hybrid systems and multi-power plant control strategies
Experience with commissioning processes, performance testing, and root cause analysis
Familiarity with grid modeling terminology and software (e.g. PSSE, PSCAD, PSLF)
Knowledge of interconnection, NERC requirements.
