Requirements

What you’ll need

High school diploma or equivalent
National Registry of EMTs Advanced Emergency Medical Technician registration (renewed every two years)
West Virginia Office of EMS Advanced Emergency Medical Technician license (to be obtained within 30 days of hire, renewed every two years)
Valid Driver’s License with acceptable driving record
Emergency Vehicle Operator Safety (EVOS) certification (to be obtained within 30 days of hire, renewed every four years)
Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (to be obtained within 30 days of hire, renewed every two years)
Valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (to be obtained within 30 days of hire, renewed every two years)
Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) certification (to be obtained within one month of hire, renewed every two years)
Emergency Pediatric Care (EPC), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), or equivalent certification (to be obtained within one month of hire, renewed every two years)
West Virginia Office of EMS Blood Endorsement (to be obtained within one year of hire, renewed annually)
Successful completion of National Incident Management System (NIMS) training (to be obtained within 30 days of hire)
Unencumbered ability to practice Emergency Medical Services within West Virginia and compliance with all regulations
Background check that does not demonstrate a threat to public safety
Minimum of two years of driving experience
