About the role

  • Direct financial counseling and clearance operations across WVU Medicine’s enterprise, ensuring consistency, compliance, and excellence in service delivery
  • Oversee the generation of patient cost estimates for scheduled services, including insurance coverage, copays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket costs
  • Manage workflows for processing financial assistance, Medicaid, or charity care applications
  • Create a highly visible, interactive onsite Customer Service team to respond to inquiries from patients onsite
  • Expand financial access services internally and externally by building and maintaining strong partnerships with other departments
  • Develop, review, and revise policies and procedures to ensure accurate and efficient financial access processes
  • Manage enterprise-level projects to support revenue cycle goals, including finding funding sources and establishing workflows to identify and connect patients to available funding sources
  • Set and drive goals using data-driven strategies related to estimate accuracy, estimate automation, financial assistance pre-screening, and overall financial assistance approvals
  • Implement new technology to improve the patient financial experience and patient digital experience through patient-facing tools
  • Oversight of departmental budget with responsibility for keeping system cost low
  • Oversight of departmental personnel, ensuring engagement, productivity, and workforce quality

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Five (5) years of experience in hospital finance, revenue cycle, patient financial services, billing, collections, or accounts receivable management
  • Two (2) years of direct supervision of associates
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or related field (preferred)
  • Certified Healthcare Financial Professional (CHFP) – HFMA (preferred)
  • Working knowledge of hospital-based applications and Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity with third-party payers, medical terminology, and time-of-service collection procedures
