About the role

  • Develop and execute a Business Development plan related to Trenchless Technology and Utility services.
  • Evaluate current WSB service offerings and develop a plan to integrate into utility owner markets.
  • Other service area development – gain an understanding of the other services WSB can provide and collaborate with key leaders to cross-sell these services.
  • Develop and manage KPIs related to revenue, service growth, backlog/pipeline, opportunities, and service delivery.
  • Ensure development and implementation of a Trenchless Technology Strategic Business Plan to support the goals and visions identified in the Strategic Business Plans of other services areas within WSB that support utility owner markets.
  • Participate in and contribute to annual business planning efforts with City market leaders across the region and county to develop trenchless technology market-specific past performance evaluations, future performance projections, and goal setting.
  • Collaborate with other WSB markets and service-areas to promote and ensure resource sharing, quality of work production and deliverables and integrity of the brand.
  • Identify staff that can serve in key roles and actively engage staff to assist with their professional development.
  • Identify additional staffing needs as required.
  • Manage direct reports and indirect reports through managerial staff to maximize productivity and professional development (including technical expertise and business acumen).
  • Participate in/support training programs/plans consistent with company expectations that utilize training tools developed by WSB (i.e. Graduate Engineer Training Program; City Engineering Training Project; Project Management Training; WSB Development Program).
  • Promote a culture of diversity, integrity, growth, technical excellence, and business development.
  • Focused Project/Client target development – identification and prioritization of top prospects and pursuits strategic to the city and trenchless utility markets and supportive of the overall WSB market priorities and initiatives.
  • Pre-proposal strategy, teaming, and positioning on pursuits.
  • Teaming recommendations and participation in negotiations.
  • Establish and maintain membership in appropriate industry associations and groups. Continue to provide leadership within appropriate groups.
  • Coordination with marketing efforts – identify clients/marketing campaigns to advance the business development plan.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited school.
  • Registration as a professional engineer (or the ability to obtain registration within six months).
  • 10+ years municipal experience.
  • Experience in managing municipal projects, clients, and staff in this market.
  • A history in delivering projects with positive customer service experiences.
  • A positive attitude, as well as a willingness to learn.
  • The ability and desire to develop an understanding of, or even anticipate the client’s needs, is a plus.
