About the role

  • The Base Manager is responsible for the overall coordination of operations and programmatic implementation at the field base.
  • They will ensure the strategic and operational management of the base, including direct supervision of a project.
  • They will also play a key role in local representation and in strengthening partnerships with humanitarian actors and local civil and military authorities.
  • Ensure the smooth running of programmatic activities as well as support services (finance, administration, human resources, logistics and security).
  • Represent the organization to local authorities, humanitarian partners and stakeholders in the area of operations.

Requirements

  • Progressive experience in base management, humanitarian projects, development, early recovery and/or emergency response.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in team management, including managerial supervision, technical mentoring and capacity-building of programme staff.
  • Proven experience in staff safety and programme security management in insecure contexts.
  • Strong, demonstrated experience in managing logistics, procurement, administration and financial functions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to negotiate with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to adapt to complex, high-pressure working conditions in the field.
  • Cultural and gender sensitivity, adaptability, and willingness to travel regularly.
  • Advanced computer skills: Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Education: University degree or postgraduate studies in humanitarian law, humanitarian leadership, political science, social sciences, peacebuilding, or another relevant field, or significant demonstrable professional field experience.
  • Languages: French (fluent); Arabic (spoken). Ability to read, write and speak English would be a considerable asset.
