About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • This role is responsible for supervising others and includes responsibilities consistent with supervising employees, including but not limited to monitoring daily work activities, tracking and approving timesheets including approving time off, monitoring performance including entering goals, progress check-ins, and weekly or bi-weekly check-ins, documenting performance concerns, entering staff promotions, transitions, and separations in HRIS within required time frame
  • Supervise finance staff at all locations of the region
  • Work with the California Regional Director and Program Directors or department managers regarding overall development and implementation of general office and department budgets
  • Determine, with the California Regional Director, the overall financial needs of the office and prepare a general office annual budget to meet those needs
  • Oversee office financial processes to ensure they are completed accurately and in compliance with standards
  • Lead and facilitate monthly Budget vs. Actual (BvA) meetings and provide financial forecasting guidance to Regional Director and leadership team
  • Ensure internal controls are in place and followed to prevent financial mismanagement or fraud
  • Provide training and support to finance staff in field offices, improving their financial acumen and reporting accuracy
  • Work closely with leadership to improve financial sustainability and risk management
  • Oversee and implement all procedures for spending, revenue accounting and support documentation for proper accountability
  • Manage Insurance Coordination (property, liability, and vehicle) with HO
  • Approve all budgets and expenses in conjunction with grant and internal requirements
  • Manage the financial reporting process for all state, local and private grants and interact with HO finance on US Federal Program reporting
  • Oversee accounts payable, including coding and approval of invoices, expense reports and check requests
  • Manage accounts receivable, including coding and allocation of donation, fee, and grant income
  • Maintain finances for all grants, including copies of approved budgets and amendments, grant reports, and general ledger
  • Oversee use of office petty cash funds and credit cards
  • Act as primary contact and liaison with Home Office accountants, local financial institutions, and all official business relationships between WR and local entities
  • Ensure local office compliance with WRHO financial policies, processes, & timelines
  • Integrate local budgets and budget processes with the ERP as developed by WRHO and work with the OD on all inaccurate reports
  • Develop yearly budget goals and procedures with the California Regional Director
  • Ensure all items requested during audits or by corporate finance are accurately prepared and submitted on time

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Mature and personal Christian faith
  • Committed to the mission, vision, and values of World Relief
  • Desire to serve and empower the Church to impact vulnerable communities
  • Able to affirm and/or acknowledge World Relief's Core Beliefs, Statement of Faith, Christian Identity and National Association of Evangelicals' For the Health of The Nation document
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in finance, Accounting, or Business Administration
  • 7+ years of experience in financial management, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role
  • Strong leadership, strategic planning, and financial analysis skills
  • Proficiency in financial software, donor compliance regulations, and nonprofit accounting principles
  • Ability to forecast budgets and explain budget concepts in lay terms
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other MS Office programs
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, challenging, and multi-cultural environment
  • Excellent communication skills to work across multiple departments and teams
  • Creative critical thinking skills
  • Strong decision-making skills
  • Ability to mentor staff
