About the role
- Provide direct legal counsel and representation to immigrants seeking affirmative and defensive benefits including asylum, TPS, U/T/VAWA, refugee/asylee adjustments, family reunification, DACA, naturalization, and records checks.
- Legally screen and advise individuals regarding immigration benefits and remedies available under the INA, CFR, and relevant government agency policies.
- Provide direct immigration legal representation before USCIS, EOIR, and BIA; represent clients at USCIS interviews and EOIR/BIA hearings.
- Zealously advocate for clients with relevant government actors via telephone and correspondence.
- Manage a caseload of pending immigration cases and comply with WR SoCal ILS case management rules, policies, procedures, and legal ethics.
- Engage in ongoing immigration legal training, conferences, webinars, and research; participate in LawLogix case management training and routine ILS/staff meetings.
- Support community trainings (Immigration 101, Know Your Rights, Asylum 101), practitioner forums, and interdepartmental collaboration; occasional weekend and evening events may be required.

- Excellent legal research, writing, analytical, and organizational skills
- Strong self-starter skills and a desire to learn and grow
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in an adjudicatory setting and in writing
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Active bar license and commitment to attending CLE training and maintaining good standing with the State Bar
- A minimum of 1 year in Immigration Legal Services experience (immigration attorney, DOJ Accredited Representative, paralegal, or legal assistant)
- Proficient in MS Office programs
- Database entry skills
- Valid driver’s license and/or access to alternative means of transportation and active insurance policy
- Preferred: Bilingual fluency in Dari, Farsi, Pashto, Arabic; Master’s degree preferred; 3–5 years’ experience in immigration law preferred
