Mechanical HVAC Engineer – Life Sciences
WoodIntermediate Mechanical Engineer specializing in HVAC design and analysis within life sciences industry. Focused on construction drawings, specifications, and equipment assessments for manufacturing plants.
About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Wood is currently seeking an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer candidate with design and analysis experience in industrial HVAC, Utilities and Plumbing system design.
- Prepare construction drawings, develop specifications and assessing existing equipment for HVAC, plumbing, and energy systems for new and/or retrofit life science manufacturing plants and laboratories.
- Provides HVAC design leadership on detail design.
- Provides mechanical engineering expertise from conceptual studies, feasibility analysis, construction grade scope and estimates, detailed design, start-up, system optimization, and trouble-shooting.
- Ability to meet with clients, present for HVAC on progress of work, design options and 3D model reviews.
- Perform facility system assessment field work.
- Generates workload plans, design analyses, drawing plans, specifications, HVAC load/ventilation calculations, pump calculations.
- Supports proposals generation (FEL1 thru 3, Detailed Design).
- Significant CAD work with AutoCAD and Revit.
- Reviews work of and provides guidance to junior engineers.
- Review equipment and material submittals for adequacy and compliance with contractual documents.
- Performs site visits when required and assists with construction RFI’s after document issuance for construction.
Requirements
What you’ll need- BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited school
- 5-10 years of facility HVAC design experience
- Able to generate own drawing packages with AutoCAD and Revit
- Knowledgeable with Codes and industry standards (ex. NFPA, International Codes, Factory Mutual Datasheets, ASHRAE, etc.)
- Able to write design analyses, specifications, estimate project costs, and estimate construction schedule duration
- Able to travel by air & ground, climbing ladders
- Must pass drug screen, background check, and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company’s driving (MVR) policy
- PE License is not required but desired
- Experience with REVIT and Navisworks
- Experience with Elite CHVAC, AFT Fathom, Trane TRACE (or Carrier HAP for energy modeling)
- Experience in Fire Protection and Plumbing is a plus
- PE License desirable
