About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Maintain and grow billable value in assigned accounts
  • Prevent customer account losses and sell permanent new waste streams, services, and products
  • Initiate business-to-business sales relationships
  • Prospect and close sales opportunities to achieve budgeted sales goals
  • Develop prospect development plans and maintain prospect database information
  • Maintain the sales pipeline to achieve new sales goals
  • Maintain relationship health standards and diffuse cancellation requests
  • Execute retention plans to improve customer service and profitability
  • Establish and maintain high customer satisfaction
  • Propose compliant customer solutions and resolve unique customer issues with Area Sales Managers
  • Communicate pricing and service strategies and engage additional WM business opportunities
  • Prepare complex proposals and recommend equipment optimization and leasing options
  • Maintain knowledge of internal sales strategies, operational capabilities, and external market trends
  • Collaborate with Plant Managers and Brokerage Account Managers to upgrade materials, increase profitability, and achieve plant goals
  • Resolve customer service escalations within the defined territory
  • Obtain customer contract commitments during face-to-face interactions

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's Degree (accredited) or, in lieu of degree, a High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and 4 years of relative work experience
  • 4 years of work experience in direct business-to-business sales, cold calling, and phone-based prospecting resulting in successfully obtaining customer appointments, in addition to the education requirement
  • Experience in prospecting and closing sales opportunities
  • Experience developing and implementing selling and retention strategies
  • Knowledge of customers' needs, pricing, competition, and service strategies
  • Ability to prepare complex proposals and recommend equipment optimization and leasing options
  • Knowledge of internal sales strategies and operational capabilities
  • Knowledge of external market trends
  • Ability to work with local, state, and federal regulatory requirements
  • Ability to resolve customer service escalations
  • REAL ID or TSA-approved alternative, or willingness to obtain one if required for business air travel or federal property access
  • Ability to perform essential functions with reasonable accommodation where applicable
