About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Directs and performs Month-End Close functions.
Drives adherence to the organization's accounting principles, practices, and procedures regarding the maintenance of fiscal records and the preparation of financial reports.
Ensures a strong framework of financial controls and adherence to established policies and procedures.
Requires a continuous improvement mindset and focus across the function, looking for process standardization and automation opportunities.
Establishes a strong “tone at the top” related to WM’s commitments and values.
Supervises and participates in the preparation of various financial statements and reports.
Responsible for review of monthly Balance Sheet reconciliations and completion of monthly Area Balance Sheet analysis.
Submits reasonable budget information and performs variance analysis comparing results to prior year actual and prior year budget.
Reviews and evaluates work to ensure quality and timeliness.
Oversees personnel needs of the department including selecting, coaching, and training employees and evaluating employee performance.
Key contact for all audit-related questions both internal and external.
Builds a strong foundational knowledge of the business – its customers, profit drivers, and operational capabilities.
Provides energizing leadership with a focus on attracting, retaining and developing top talent.
Lead system implementation and manage change initiatives.
Oversees accounting for a minimum of two or more market areas.

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor's Degree (accredited) in Accounting or similar area of study
High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and four years of relevant experience
10+ years of previous experience in progressively responsible accounting or finance roles
