Market Area Safety Specialist
WMResponsible for the development and execution of safety strategic goals for a market area at Waste Management. Coordinate safety initiatives and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Responsible for the development and execution of all Safety strategic goals and offers safety related budgetary guidance for the Area
- Works closely with Corporate and Market Area Senior Leadership Teams to understand, support, and align safety strategy, goals, and objectives
- Oversees, manages, and consults with Market Area and Site leaders on Drive Cam System Management
- Identify, reduce, and eliminate tasks that present a high risk for serious injury and or fatality
- Works closely with EH&S team to ensure appropriate dissemination and implementation of EH&S policies
- Determines severity and initiates formal investigation as necessary
- Analyzes incident trends and ensures District Specific Safety Plan is in place and operational
- Has oversight of the WM Hazardous Energy Control Program and is able to direct, train and coach others
- Works closely with internal and external Subject Matter Experts to ensure WM is in adherence to all required standards
- Manages the Employee Health Management and Personal Protective Equipment Management
- Must be able to constructively develop and coach others on overall risk management and safety topics
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's Degree (accredited) or High School Diploma (accredited) with four (4) years of relevant work experience
- 5 years to 7 years in Transportation Safety, Post Collections or Operations Management
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Preferred
- Certified Industrial Hygienist Preferred
- Professional Engineer (PE) License Preferred
- Qualified Environmental Professional (QEP) Preferred
- Registered Environmental Manager (REM) Preferred
- Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) Preferred
- Strong knowledge in Safety Rules & Regulations including DOT and OSHA
- Execution: Ensuring others contribute to organization strategies by focusing on the most critical priorities, measuring progress, and ensuring accountability against those metrics
- Planning & Organizing: Establishing an action plan for self and others to complete work efficiently and on time
- Influencing: Using effective involvement and persuasion strategies to gain acceptance of ideas
- Driving for Results: Setting high goals for personal and group accomplishment
- Coaching & Developing Others: Providing feedback, instruction, and development guidance to help others excel
- Facilitating Change: Encouraging others to implement better approaches to address problems
