About the role

  • Manages existing business relationships by developing and implementing sound retention strategies
  • Utilize strong negotiation efforts to preserve business and secure contract agreements from previously non-contracted customers
  • Handle all retention requests and provide ongoing education of contract details to existing customers
  • Obtain customer contract commitments during face-to-face interactions
  • Resolve all customer service escalations within the assigned book of business
  • Establish and maintain a high level of customer satisfaction
  • Work with the Retention Manager to resolve unique customer issues
  • Increase revenue and profitability by executing retention plans during customer calls
  • Match Waste Management services with customer needs, communicate pricing and service strategies, and refer internal business opportunities
  • Propose customer solutions compliant with local, state and federal regulations
  • Update and secure customer service agreements
  • Use Waste Management sales productivity software tools (Prospect and Customer Database, Proposal Program, Pricing Tools)
  • Prepare complex proposals and recommend equipment optimization and leasing options
  • Based in Johnson City or Kingsport, TN and travel regularly to field locations in the Tri-Cities and East Knoxville

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree (accredited) in Sales, Marketing, Business Administration or similar OR High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and four (4) years of relevant work experience
  • Experience: Two (2) years of relationship management experience in environmental, waste or related service industry (in addition to education requirement)
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: None required
  • Ability to generate reports, general business correspondence, present information and respond to questions for managers, clients and the public
  • Significant knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Substantial experience with web based interactive systems
  • Exceptional presentation skills
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation carrying required insurance
  • Ability to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding) most of the work day
  • Ability to exert physical effort in handling objects less than 30 pounds part of the work day
  • Willingness to travel throughout the Tri-Cities and East Knoxville on a regular basis
