About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Act as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of clients, building strong relationships and addressing inquiries with financial insights and practical recommendations.
  • Oversee and review the maintenance of accurate financial records across the client portfolio, including transactions, reconciliations, and ledgers.
  • Review and manage the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Oversee reconciliation processes for bank statements, credit cards, and other accounts, identifying and resolving discrepancies.
  • Manage payroll oversight, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations across client accounts.
  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes, including invoicing, payments, and collections, across the client portfolio.
  • Support the preparation of tax returns and liaise with clients and advisors during tax audits.
  • Train, mentor, and support junior bookkeeping staff, reviewing their work and guiding their professional development.
  • Utilize accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, MYOB) to oversee financial data management and reporting across clients.
  • Monitor compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, keeping clients and the team informed of changes to accounting standards and practices.
  • Identify opportunities to improve client processes and proactively flag issues or risks to senior management.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum 3 years of Australian Bookkeeping experience working in an Australian Public Practice Firm.
  • Minimum of 5 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, preferably within a public practice environment, with prior experience managing client relationships.
  • Proficiency in accounting software Xero.
  • Strong knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles and practices.
  • Excellent client relationship management, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to review and oversee others' work for accuracy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with confidence liaising directly with clients.
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and support junior team members.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities across multiple clients, and work collaboratively within a team.
  • Familiarity with payroll processing and tax preparation is a plus.
