Direct management of a Quality Engineering team (test engineering, QA, SDET) as a player-coach
Design and implement a new testing strategy with a particular focus on leveraging AI for automation
Interact with peer engineering managers to ensure buy-in for evolving testing practices
Guide the evolution of the Quality Engineering team and support hiring or promotion of roles
Build reports and analyze metrics; be accountable for QA KPIs (test coverage; % automation; release-failure rates; time-to-recover; deployment frequency; telemetry coverage including AI usage)
Drive a shift-left quality vision with emphasis on observability and rethinking tooling and processes
Be reasonably hands-on and influence project outcomes and team happiness
Maintain a hybrid in-office presence (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays) in Columbus, OH; Charlottesville, VA; or Durham, NC
Requirements
Manage a Quality Engineering team (test engineering, QA, SDET)
Expertise in testing frameworks and methodology
Strong understanding of the role of developers in the testing process
Passion for AI tooling, including vibe coding
Familiarity with Playwright
Ability to design and implement testing strategy and leverage AI for automation
Strong collaboration and influencing skills ("play well with others")
Comfortable working in a data-driven environment; building reports and analyzing metrics
Interest in SRE overlap and observability
Ability to guide team evolution and mentor across levels
Experience not strictly defined; ability to evolve practices and lead through influence
