About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Counsel employers on complex workplace issues, workforce strategy, risk management, compliance, and employment-related litigation.
- Conduct and oversee sensitive workplace investigations involving allegations of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, misconduct, and other employment concerns.
- Advise employers and insurance carriers on Employment Practices Liability Insurance (EPLI) matters, including pre-litigation strategy, claim management, and defense coordination.
- Represent clients in federal and state courts and before administrative agencies, including the EEOC, NLRB, Department of Labor, OSHA, and related regulatory bodies.
- Provide practical and business-oriented guidance on hiring, discipline, accommodations, wage and hour compliance, reductions in force, separations, restrictive covenants, and employee relations matters.
- Draft, review, and implement employment agreements, executive agreements, separation agreements, handbooks, policies, and workplace procedures.
- Deliver management training, employment audits, compliance reviews, and proactive risk-assessment programs designed to reduce litigation exposure.
- Advise employers on emerging workforce issues involving immigration-related employment compliance and workforce mobility, either directly or in collaboration with specialized immigration counsel.
- Identify and coordinate ERISA-related considerations that arise within broader employment matters while working alongside specialized benefits counsel when appropriate.
- Develop and expand client relationships while contributing to the continued growth of the Labor & Employment practice.
- Mentor and collaborate with junior attorneys and professional staff to enhance service delivery and practice development.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Member of The Florida Bar in good standing.
- Florida Bar Board Certification in Labor & Employment Law is preferred.
- Approximately 10–15 years of employer-side labor and employment experience in a law firm environment, including a demonstrated record of providing strategic counsel and representing employers in litigation, arbitration, class and collective actions, and administrative proceedings.
- Significant experience advising employers on complex workplace matters involving employee relations, workplace investigations, EPLI claims, wage and hour compliance, accommodations, leave management, labor relations, restrictive covenants, workforce restructuring, and executive employment issues.
- Experience representing employers before federal and state courts and administrative agencies, including the EEOC, NLRB, Department of Labor, OSHA, and related regulatory bodies.
- Experience counseling and defending employers in matters arising under federal and state employment laws, including Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, FLSA, OSHA, whistleblower, affirmative action, and related employment law frameworks.
- Experience drafting and advising on employment agreements, separation agreements, employee handbooks, workplace policies, training programs, and human resources compliance initiatives.
- Familiarity with employee benefits, ERISA-related issues, immigration-related employment matters, workforce mobility, and employment eligibility compliance is preferred.
- Experience managing complex discovery matters, including e-discovery, is beneficial.
- Portable book of business and demonstrated business development capability required.
- Ability to serve as a trusted advisor to business owners, executives, human resources leaders, and in-house counsel.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex legal issues into practical business advice.
- Proven ability to independently manage multiple high-level matters while maintaining exceptional client service.
- Collaborative leadership style with an interest in mentoring and developing future talent within the practice.
