About the role
- Lead multiple priorities with bold deadlines and drive delivery of high-quality enterprise applications
- Act as leader, coach, and mentor; inspire teams and equip team members for success
- Partner and collaborate with multi-functional stakeholders to prioritize, plan and deliver first-rate experiences for Workday customers
- Drive the activities of engineering scrum teams delivering innovative features for customers
- Coordinate the analysis, design, programming, debugging, and improvement of high-quality Workday products
- Engage with Development, Product, Core Engineering, Research, Agility and Customer Support colleagues
- Identify, discuss and solve customer issues in increasingly innovative ways
- Understand and promote industry-standard methodologies and engineering best practices
- Coach and mentor team members to assist with career growth and personal development
- Personify and promote Workday values (Employees, Customer Service, Innovation, Integrity, Fun, Profitability)
- Combine strong people leadership skills with deep technical expertise
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in a technical leadership role, managing a team of software development engineers
- 7+ years of hands-on software development experience with a strong background in distributed systems
- Proven experience designing and implementing scalable and high-performance systems
- Demonstrated experience with Java and its ecosystem is required
- Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design principles
- Proficient in agile methodologies and tools such as Jira; accustomed to fast-paced environments
- Bachelor’s degree in a computer related field or equivalent work experience
- Excellent communication skills, able to articulate complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
- Track record of successfully delivering large-scale software projects from conception to launch
- Experience supporting team members' career growth and development
- Strong interpersonal skills to influence decisions in a multi-functional environment
- Ability to communicate technical complexity in simple terms
- Proven experience managing technical teams in compiler, runtime, or distributed systems domains is a plus
- Knowledge in Object Oriented run-time systems and metadata driven declarative development environments is a strong plus
