About the role

  • As the Director of Software Engineering, this leader will be responsible for the technical direction, development, and operational excellence of WEX's critical credit application platform.
  • This role involves enhancing the end-to-end customer journey, streamlining credit underwriting, and ensuring compliance and fraud prevention.
  • The ideal candidate will be a strong, empathetic, and passionate leader who can manage a complex technical team, collaborate with diverse stakeholders, and drive continued innovation and efficiency in a high-impact area of the business.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field; higher degree is a plus
  • 10+ years of software design and development experience at large scale
  • 3-5+ years of people management experience
  • Deep technical expertise in architecture design, development, deployment, and production operations
  • Experience with full SDLC, agile methodologies, modern development tools, and CI/CD automation
  • Experience in Java, J2EE, Spring and Microservice Architecture
  • Experience with application development and understanding of web standards
  • Led design and implementation of user-centric digital applications, focusing on UX and conversion rates
  • Monitored application performance with data/analytics, troubleshooting anomalies, and building proactive systems for real-time insights
  • Translated customer feedback and stakeholder expectations into development priorities, communicating business impact of technical and UX issues
  • Proven ability to lead global teams and attract top engineering talent
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Salesforce knowledge is a plus
  • Experience in the financial services or payments industry is a plus
