About the role

  • Oversee all aspects of indirect tax compliance, planning, and audits for Westinghouse and our subsidiaries
  • Support the federal and international tax functions with indirect tax implications of multiple transactions and projects, and state and local corporate income tax matters
  • Report to the Director, US Tax & Global Tax Reporting
  • Develop relationships with other corporate functions such as Finance, Accounting, Treasury, Internal Audit, FP&A, IT, legal, Procurement, Sales, and third-party service providers
  • Manage and review the co-sourced preparation and filing of state and local sales and use tax returns (approximately 1,100 per year) and payments for all U.S. jurisdictions
  • Manage state and local sales and use tax audits and inquiries, including responding to information requests, reviewing audit workpapers, negotiating audit adjustments and settlements, and filing protests and appeals
  • Implement state and local indirect tax planning opportunities to reduce cash taxes and risk
  • Analyze state and local indirect tax implications of multiple transactions and projects
  • Develop and maintain state and local indirect tax policies and procedures to ensure compliance with internal controls and SOX requirements
  • Manage customer exemption certificates and prepare vendor exemption certificates and state income tax withholding exemptions
  • Manage use of technology tools such as Alteryx and Vertex and develop ways to improve processes through use of automation
  • Advise on SAP implementations for acquired and merged entities
  • Example of returns to prepare include Canadian GST/HST/QST/PST, US Federal and state income tax planning, compliance, and accounting and miscellaneous filings such as W-9 forms, property tax returns, annual report filings, business licenses, federal excise tax returns.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Master's degree in accounting or taxation preferred
  • 10+ years of state & local tax experience with Big 4 Accounting, State Tax Authority or a global organization
  • Technical knowledge of state and local tax laws and regulations
  • CPA, experience with SAP, Vertex and Alteryx preferred but not required
