About the role
- accountable for the First Line of Defense (FLoD) Issue Management Program
- oversees the end-to-end issue lifecycle (identification, assessment, remediation, validation, and reporting)
- drives consistent governance, metrics, and executive reporting
- drive proactive and timely identification, management, and oversight of issues per firm requirements
- identification of thematic root causes underlying control failure/s and facilitating the planning and execution of effective remediation of control gaps
- collaborate with stakeholders to resolve roadblocks and facilitate solutioning with senior leaders
- development, implementation, maintenance and management of the Issue Management application (System of Record)
- design and implement of issue management reporting for senior leadership to identify trends, emerging risks, and actionable items in the risk and controls environment
- liaise within the organization to ensure connectivity with enterprise-wide issue management efforts to enhance Western Alliance safety and soundness
- development of strong relationships with key stakeholders
- proactive engagement with control functions to ensure understanding of the First Line of Defense governance program
- focus on continuous control improvements across all areas to enable the evolutionary design of the overall control framework in an efficient, cost effective, streamlined, and value-add manner
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in information security, Computer Science, Technology or a related field
- 10 years of experience in Financial Services and First Line Risk, Enterprise Risk, or Operational Risk
- Expertise in technology risk and controls, industry best practices and applicable frameworks such as NIST, ISO, and COBIT
- Experience in Technology, cybersecurity, or technology risk management disciplines
- Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills (a must) and the ability to translate complex concepts in a concise manner
- Openness to continuously challenging the status quo
- Demonstrated leader capable of driving change and developing a high-performing team
- Ability to set priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast paced, highly matrix, dynamic environment
- Self-motivated, highly adaptive, and able to work well under high stress
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Industry certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CISA, or CRISC a plus.
