About the role

  • work in a mid-level role with proficiency in one or more key products
  • responsible for managing and supporting the organization's IT infrastructure or applications
  • identify development and support needs as well as taking on design responsibilities supporting project tasks
  • possess or acquire expertise in contemporary automation and integration techniques, Cloud-First design patterns and frameworks, and advanced critical thinking skills
  • facilitate dialogue and activities, while also ensuring team collaboration
  • take assignments that can be worked on individually without supervision and manage work effort from concept to completion
  • design and implement engineering principles aimed at reliability practices and sound recovery procedures
  • design transaction-specific application performance monitoring metrics that can be captured and passed to business partners
  • layout reference architecture and visual diagrams that capture work
  • develop, implement and support ETL and data pipeline capabilities considering how data is created, transformed, stored, archived, analyzed, and shared across Western Alliance Bank and our partners
  • perform data exploration and data profiling with tools such as Databricks
  • apply recommendations and designs from Data Governance and Enterprise Architecture to data engineering solutions
  • collaborate with product owners and business stakeholders to gain a working understanding of business requirements and operational processes
  • participate in testing, deployment, and production support activities

Requirements

  • 5+ years of related experience in Development, Data Engineering, or similar field
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or data engineering or related field is required
  • Expert level knowledge in Python and related libraries and Object-Oriented programming
  • Proven experience with data engineering specifically in Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) concepts and processes, enterprise data warehouse capabilities, database principles, and other related tools and technologies; preferably experience with SSIS and Azure Data Factory
  • Experience implementing and supporting cloud data solutions; Azure Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Services, and Azure DevOps experience preferred
  • Experience working within Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) solutions
  • Strong Experience with at least one RDBMS and query language such as T-SQL, PL/SQL, Spark SQL
  • Experience in creating and adhering to conceptual, logical, and physical data design
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and ability to work collaboratively within a team
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of general Financial Services or Banking preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable regulatory and legal compliance obligations, rules and regulations, industry standards and practices
  • Advanced proven experience in leading cross-functional teams and managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Additional experience with pipeline development and leveraging Azure DevOps while working on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Intermediate to advanced ability to see the big picture and align projects with organizational goals
  • Capable of leading and motivating cross-functional teams
  • Expertise in resolving conflicts and addressing challenges as well as skilled at identifying and mitigating risks at the project level
  • Proficient in governance patterns tied to intake, technical reviews, and architectural compliance
  • Experience integrating with data quality, data catalog and data lineage tools
  • May require up to 25% travel
