Underwriting Counsel - NJ/PA
Westcor Land Title Insurance Company®Underwriting Counsel providing support and authorization for title insurance processes at Westcor Land Title Insurance Company. Examines title orders and ensures compliance with underwriting standards.
About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provides underwriting support and authorization to company personnel, agents, and customer(s)
- Examines title orders within company guidelines to determine conditions of title and insurability
- Researches title plant software, analyzes and evaluates pertinent record documents
- Explains chain of title, exceptions, and requirements to customers and managers
- Recognizes title defects and formulates curative solution
- Assesses risks and liabilities that may jeopardize the company
- Maintains proper production levels and delivery standards on a daily basis
- Reviews surveys prepared on properties, if applicable
- Works closely with the customer and escrow staff to meet time requirements
- Prepares an accurate and comprehensive title commitment in accordance with company procedures
- Performs other duties assigned by manager
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years title underwriting experience
- Must be familiar with real estate law
- Strong understanding of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of real estate title and settlement process
- General knowledge of Federal and State regulations related to real estate title insurance and settlement services
- General understanding of underwriting real estate transactions for the issuance of title insurance policies
- Ability to collaborate and act decisively
- Detail oriented
- Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills
- Good organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize and timely follow up
- Strong negotiation skills
- Requires abstract thinking and creative solutions
