About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Travel from site to site to service and repair refrigeration, HVAC, and miscellaneous equipment in retail supermarkets
  • Respond to service requests involving refrigeration systems, HVAC, cardboard balers, checkout counters, lighting, humidifiers, and other equipment
  • Complete service reports, time sheets, expense reports, purchase records, and related documentation
  • Maintain contact with Sunbury dispatch by telephone and voicemail to receive new service calls
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections and procedures
  • Maintain the workplace, including the service van, in a neat, clean, and safe condition
  • Communicate with the Service Supervisor regarding the need for further action
  • Interview store personnel to determine service needs
  • Instruct store personnel in safe, effective, and efficient equipment operation
  • Train new Service Technicians
  • Work and drive safely using appropriate safety gear and techniques
  • Respond to emergency breakdown calls whenever possible
  • Project a professional image and observe food safety and hygiene rules
  • Perform other duties as directed by supervision

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Post-secondary technical training in job-related discipline OR five years of experience in maintenance of commercial refrigeration systems
  • EPA certified (Type I and II) in proper refrigeration practices
  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record; must be insurable
  • Computer literate
  • Knowledge of MSDS and OSHA
  • Capable of working on roofs, scaffolds, and ladders at medium heights (approximately 30’)
  • Good verbal, writing, and reading skills
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply manufacturers’ instructions
  • Knowledge of refrigeration systems and service techniques, including troubleshooting, electrical, and brazing skills
  • Proper use of hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic instruments common to the trade
  • Proper food safety techniques for the supermarket industry
  • Ability to prioritize multiple demands and adjust priorities as conditions dictate
  • Good judgment, reliability, initiative, tact, integrity, dependability, and quick thinking
  • Ability to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to work under extremes of weather and conditions of heat, cold, noise, and dust
  • Ability to work under time pressure, without direct supervision, and outside normal working hours for occasional emergencies
