Journalist

• Develops original and creative story ideas.
• Develops sources, investigates and researches to gather information, images and audio.
• Prepares and presents original reporting for news spots, reports and program segments.
• Reports, writes and presents breaking news, news features and enterprise and investigative pieces.
• Makes regular appearances on Chicago Public Media platforms.
• Participates in editorial process.
• Voices stories, and depending on assignment, may voice program elements or briefings for on-demand distribution.
• Depending on assignment, may contribute to the execution of live events or broadcasts.
• Performs production duties to ensure the successful execution of shows, newscasts, programs, podcasts or other platforms (e.g., research, booking guests, creating web content, updating social media accounts, writing and producing interviews, etc.).
• Gathers, edits, and mixes audio or multimedia elements.
• Depending on assignment, may contribute to the execution of live events or broadcasts.

Reporter/Producer 1

• Cover the Illinois Legislature for WBEZ and the Chicago Sun-Times and provide daily news and enterprise work for Illinois Public Radio
• Based in Springfield, working from the Capitol; occasionally report from Chicago and collaborate with other reporters
• Report, write and produce stories for broadcast and digital platforms, including daily news items, feature stories, projects, podcasts, on-air discussions and live events
• Collaborate with an editor and colleagues to research, pitch, conceptualize, report and produce stories
• Generate story and project ideas for multiple platforms
• Participate in special projects and perform other station duties as necessary
• Develop big-picture approaches to covering issues while executing the many small tasks involved in reporting
• Represent Chicago Public Media to internal and external audiences

Platform Engineer

• Design, build, and maintain pipelines and tools to ensure organizational data flows reliably and is ready for use in CRM, ESP, donation, and analytics systems.
• Build and maintain ETL pipelines using Python and SQL to move data between internal systems and external platforms (e.g., CRMs, ESPs).
• Ensure data reliability and integrity across systems and develop automated validation and alerting.
• Troubleshoot issues across platforms and contribute to root cause analysis and long-term solutions.
• Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into scalable technical solutions.
• Participate in monitoring, performance tuning, and refactoring of existing data flows.
• Help maintain and extend internal tools that support data operations and stakeholder reporting needs.
• Document systems, processes, and logic to ensure knowledge sharing and continuity.
