About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Clean, grind, sand, and finish component surfaces before painting
  • Examine workpiece surfaces for defects
  • Select and attach abrasive wheels or disks according to specifications and metal condition
  • Operate grinders to remove scratches, laminated metal, excess weld material, and burrs
  • Polish ground areas with finer abrasive to produce smooth surfaces
  • Replace worn abrasive disks and wheels
  • Assist welders with non-welding preparation functions
  • Set up weld tables with materials for welders
  • Lift and load work materials using hoists, cranes, or forklifts
  • Help load or move heavy workpieces during operations
  • Perform subassembly work as needed
  • Use bracing and measurement tools
  • Assist with bolting metal components
  • Perform preventative maintenance on welding equipment and tools
  • Clean workpieces with a grinder or scraper as necessary
