About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Review medical record documentation to determine appropriate billing codes and necessary documentation
- Identify pertinent facts needed to select comprehensive diagnoses and procedures describing patients’ conditions and treatment
- Code evaluation and management to appropriate CPT codes and diagnoses to appropriate ICD-10 codes
- Meet with physicians to review documentation, resolve coding, and secure signatures for unsigned dates of service
- Tag files for follow-up
- Act as lead person and assist coders and IBC staff with medical terminology and policy interpretation
- Assist efforts to increase physician awareness of documentation requirements
- Prepare case reports and initiate follow-up for the billing process
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Must have one of the following coding credentials: AHIMA (CCA, CCS, or CCS-P); AAPC (CPC, CPC-A, CPC-H, CPC-H-A, or one of the AAPC specialty-specific coding credentials)
- Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding
- No specific work experience is required
- A diploma, certification or degree is not required
- Driver's license is not required
- Must complete applicable pre-employment screening, including criminal background check and verification of employment and education or licensure/certification as applicable
- Preferred: Previous coding experience or experience equivalent to an associate’s degree in a related field
- Preferred: Associate degree in Medical Coding & Billing
- Preferred: Computer Systems, ICD-10 Procedure Coding System, Medical Billing and Coding, Medical Terminology
