About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Interact directly with clinic patients and complete clinical tasks, including vital signs, EKGs, phlebotomy, and medication verification
- Prepare charts, schedule tests, prepare exam rooms, and support office hours
- Assist with examinations, procedures, and laboratory tests
- Renew and authorize non-narcotic medications under standing orders and department guidelines when applicable
- Administer physician- or nurse-practitioner-ordered medications, including vaccines and intramuscular/subcutaneous injections, when applicable
- Direct patient flow and assist with special procedures and treatments
- Route phone messages, patient questions, and telephone communications to appropriate personnel
- Support care coordination by calling patients with test results, scheduling appointments, surgeries, diagnostic procedures, and admissions, and monitoring patient contacts and follow-ups
- Complete requisitions, orders, paperwork, and documentation
- Answer basic patient/family questions about treatments, diagnoses, and procedures
- Monitor supply inventory and ensure supplies, equipment, and garments comply with regulations
- Clean and stock exam rooms and sterilize instruments
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and required skills/competencies
- Participate in in-services, staff programs, continuing education, cross-training, and quality improvement activities
- Comply with OSHA and state and federal regulatory standards
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or equivalent high school certification
- Registered or Certified Medical Assistant with six months of related work experience
- Medical Assistant credentials obtained from in-person proctored exams from NHA, AAMA, or AMT; other in-person proctored credentials may be accepted upon Human Resources approval
- Substitution: graduate of an accredited nursing program such as RN/LPN, or comparable allied health training program with a minimum of one year of relevant experience
- Ability to provide proof of Medical Assistant certification/registration and successful certification exam completion within six months of hire; online proctored exams are not sufficient
- Basic Life Support certification with a skills assessment component; online BLS certifications without skills assessment are not sufficient
- Required certification options include Basic Life Support, CCMA, CMA, LPN, RMA, or RN credentials as applicable
- Preferred: graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program
- Preferred: B.S.N. or Diploma in Practical Nursing
- Preferred: two years of Medical Assistant experience
- Knowledge of anatomy, clinical care, electrocardiography/EKG, electronic medical records/EMR, Epic EHR, HIPAA, medical terminology, OSHA compliance, patient care and medications, phlebotomy, physiology, and vital signs
- Driver's license is not required
