About the role

  • Providing customer support to other business and technology teams for issues that involve a database system
  • Serves as a mentor for Database Administrators and Associate Database Administrators
  • Provides additional support and guidance to DBAs/Associate DBAs with regards to problem solving, escalations and day-to-day work related challenges
  • Coordinates DBA activities with the infrastructure team to ensure database servers are built according to customer requirements in a timely manner
  • Takes the lead in New Projects - Defining database strategy, architecture, standards, and procedures to uphold the integrity and security of company data resources
  • Takes the lead in developing and maintaining SQL for monitoring database conditions and activities
  • Takes the lead in identifying, proposing and implementing new and emerging technologies to support ongoing projects and business operations
  • Plays a significant role in the research, development and implementation of new technologies to support new/upcoming projects
  • Takes the lead in communicating with internal and external stakeholders
  • Deploying, upgrading, relocating, and decommissioning database servers both on-prem and in the cloud
  • Designing, implementing, and testing high availability and business continuity plans for our Tier 1 applications
  • Reviewing the existing database monitoring and backup strategy and come up with a new strategy based on the business requirements
  • Being part of the team that includes participation in an On-Call rotation to provide our customers 24/7 support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or information technology
  • 5+ years of experience in database management
  • Very good experience in database administration across all aspects of the SQL Server platform including clustering, availability groups, replication, SSIS, and SSRS
  • Experience with other technologies such as Oracle, SAP HANA, DB2, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Snowflake, and Databricks is considered a plus
  • Experience working with databases hosted on-premises as well as in AWS or Azure cloud environments (PaaS and SaaS implementations)
  • Experience automating, scripting, and streamlining processes for efficiency and accuracy using PowerShell and Windows BAT
  • Ability to develop processes and procedures to standardize database installations and configurations
  • Extensive experience with implementing and maintaining disaster recovery and high availability
  • Ability to work on unusually complex technical problems and deliver highly innovative solutions
  • Ability to provide technical documentation and project plans for technical staff
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and customer-relationship skills
  • Ability to provide 24/7 support.
