About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Install HVAC and refrigeration systems, including ductwork, control panels, and building pneumatics
- Configure and calibrate low ambient systems and direct digital controls
- Interpret layout plans and schematics to ensure accurate setup and building-code compliance
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant-related issues across commercial and industrial systems
- Implement preventive maintenance programs and repair rack systems, walk-ins, reach-ins, and supermarket refrigeration units
- Perform routine checks on HVAC systems and Energy Management Systems; coordinate maintenance and repairs under manager and training technician supervision
- Use heavy machinery
- Adhere to OSHA standards and EPA 608 refrigerant-handling protocols
- Conduct inspections and repairs in compliance with federal, state, and local HVAC/R regulations
- Reclaim ozone-depleting refrigerants and document refrigerant usage
- Lead field teams and mentor Technicians and Apprentices on technical procedures and safety practices
- Explain technical issues and service outcomes to customers
- Manage escalated service issues and coordinate with external service providers
- Follow instructions from Managers and Training Technicians; assist with training plans and operational procedures
- Drive a company vehicle to complete service calls within an assigned region
- Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to business-critical incidents outside standard hours
- Coordinate service calls and workload using digital tools and scheduling systems
- Track refrigerant levels, parts inventory, and vendor relationships
- Submit warranty claims, expense reports, and work orders
- Work or train at multiple facilities or distant locations
- Maintain company vehicles and coordinate required maintenance and alternate driving support
- Safely operate motor vehicles, check vehicle condition and documents, verify insurance, and submit maintenance invoices
- Wear company uniform and badge according to policy
- Lead and participate in teams, coordinate work assignments, provide feedback and support, and help others adapt to change
- Develop and implement processes and practices, monitor results, and identify improvement opportunities
- Promote compliance with company policies, ethics, and integrity standards
- Support Walmart values concerning respect, integrity, customer service, and continuous improvement
Requirements
What you’ll need- Vocational or technical HVAC/R certification and 2 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance or construction-related field for commercial HVAC/R and building controls, OR 4 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance or construction-related field for commercial HVAC/R and building controls or related field
- Hold and maintain Type I and Type II or Universal Environmental Protection Agency certification for refrigerant handling
- Where required, HVAC-R/Mechanical Journeyman
- Valid state-issued driver’s license and ability to pass motor vehicle report
- Commercial driving record with no DUI, DWI, or OUI convictions within the last five years
- Commercial driving record with no more than two moving violations in the last three years
- No preventable accidents while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three years
- No serious traffic violations, as defined by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three years
- Completion of a 2-year Vocational or Technical HVAC/R program (preferred)
- Experience using Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint (preferred)
- Mechanical license in city and/or state where job is located (preferred)
- Prior experience reading blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams (preferred)
- Prior experience using hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment (preferred)
