Key responsibilities & impact

Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable backend services using Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and microservices
Translate business requirements into technical solutions focused on performance, maintainability, reliability, and extensibility
Build and enhance cloud-native services powering Walmart's enterprise Business Intelligence platform
Develop and optimize REST APIs, distributed services, and backend components for high-volume analytical workloads
Collaborate with product managers, frontend engineers, architects, QA, and other cross-functional teams
Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement sustainable reliability improvements
Optimize performance through caching strategies, database tuning, and code optimization
Implement automation, CI/CD improvements, telemetry, and observability
Participate in design discussions, code reviews, sprint planning, testing, and Agile activities
Monitor application health, evaluate change requests, and improve scalability, availability, and maintainability

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 2 years’ experience in software engineering or related area; alternatively, 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area
3+ years of hands-on software development experience using Java
Strong proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, Object-Oriented Programming, and backend application development
Experience designing and building REST APIs and microservices
Experience with Hibernate/JPA, Redis, and SQL databases
Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, or other containerized environments
Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git, and modern software engineering practices
Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Experience optimizing application performance and identifying system bottlenecks
Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems
Ability to translate business requirements into scalable, maintainable technical solutions
Experience working in Agile teams and collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders
Strong automation mindset
