About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Install HVAC and refrigeration systems, including ductwork, control panels, and building pneumatics
  • Configure and calibrate low ambient systems and direct digital controls
  • Interpret layout plans and schematics to ensure accurate system setup and building-code compliance
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant-related issues
  • Implement preventive maintenance programs
  • Maintain and repair rack systems, walk-ins, reach-ins, and supermarket refrigeration units
  • Perform routine checks and coordinate HVAC and Energy Management System maintenance or repairs
  • Conduct inspections and repairs in compliance with federal, state, and local HVAC/R regulations
  • Reclaim ozone-depleting refrigerants and document refrigerant usage
  • Lead field teams and mentor Technicians and Apprentices
  • Explain technical issues and service outcomes to customers
  • Manage escalated service issues and coordinate with external service providers
  • Follow instructions from Managers and Training Technicians
  • Assist with training plans and operational procedures
  • Drive a company vehicle to complete service calls within an assigned region
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to business-critical incidents
  • Coordinate service calls and manage workload using digital scheduling tools
  • Track refrigerant levels, parts inventory, and vendor relationships
  • Submit warranty claims, expense reports, and work orders
  • Collaborate with management, co-workers, customers, and business partners
  • Work or train at multiple facilities or distant locations
  • Maintain and transport company vehicles for required maintenance
  • Safely operate motor vehicles and maintain required vehicle documentation
  • Lead and participate in teams, coordinate assignments, and support timelines and work quality
  • Develop and implement processes and practices to meet business needs
  • Monitor progress, identify improvement opportunities, and address issues

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Vocational or technical HVAC/R certification and 2 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance or construction-related field for commercial HVAC/R and building controls; OR 4 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance or construction-related field for commercial HVAC/R and building controls or related field
  • Hold and maintain Type I and Type II or Universal Environmental Protection Agency certification for refrigerant handling
  • HVAC-R/Mechanical Journeyman qualification where required
  • Valid state-issued driver’s license and ability to pass a motor vehicle report
  • Commercial driving record with no DUI, DWI, or OUI convictions within the last five years
  • Commercial driving record with no more than two moving violations in the last three years
  • No preventable accidents while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three years
  • No serious traffic violations under Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations in the last three years
  • Ability to install, configure, calibrate, diagnose, and repair commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems
  • Knowledge of HVAC/R regulations, OSHA standards, EPA 608 refrigerant handling, cold chain, and indoor air quality requirements
  • Ability to interpret layout plans, schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment
  • Ability to use digital tools and scheduling systems
  • Ability to work or train at multiple facilities or distant locations
  • Ability to participate in an on-call rotation
  • Preferred: completion of a 2-year Vocational or Technical HVAC/R program
  • Preferred: experience using Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Preferred: mechanical license in the city and/or state where the job is located
