About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Research and analyze legislative and regulatory changes to state and local sales tax law.
- Manage the team implementing sales tax law changes.
- Manage categorization and review of item-level attributes to assign proper taxability.
- Maintain Walmart’s current sales tax systems.
- Participate in the Tax Modernization project and prepare for its full launch.
- Communicate tax technical requirements to technology teams and internal and external partners.
- Manage multiple responsibilities and provide guidance and support to Sales Tax Operations associates.
- Assist with other projects as needed.
Requirements
What you’ll need- 3–5 years of indirect tax experience, including sales tax, use tax, regulatory fees, and technical concepts.
- 1–2 years of hands-on sales tax engine experience, including system integration, rule creation, and general system management.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field and 2 years’ experience in accounting, finance, income tax compliance, or related area; alternatively, 4 years’ experience in those areas.
- Experience in industry, including retail and/or ecommerce, and/or consulting, including Big 4.
- Strong tax research and writing skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and guide and support associates.
- Advanced degree or taxation certification such as JD, Master’s Degree, CPA, or CMI is preferred, not required.
- Preferred qualifications include leading cross-functional projects, supervisory experience, and license to practice law in at least one state.
