About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Install HVAC and refrigeration systems, ductwork, control panels, and building pneumatics
- Configure and calibrate low ambient systems and direct digital controls
- Interpret layout plans and schematics for accurate setup and building-code compliance
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant-related issues
- Implement preventive maintenance programs
- Maintain and repair rack systems, walk-ins, reach-ins, and supermarket refrigeration units
- Perform routine HVAC and Energy Management System checks and coordinate repairs
- Conduct inspections and repairs in compliance with HVAC/R regulations, cold-chain requirements, and indoor-air-quality requirements
- Reclaim ozone-depleting refrigerants and document refrigerant usage
- Lead field teams and mentor Technicians and Apprentices
- Explain technical issues and service outcomes to customers
- Manage escalated service issues and coordinate with external service providers
- Follow instructions from Managers and Training Technicians
- Support training plans and operational procedures
- Drive a company vehicle for service calls and operational needs
- Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to business-critical incidents
- Coordinate service calls and workload using digital scheduling tools
- Track refrigerant levels, parts inventory, and vendor relationships
- Submit warranty claims, expense reports, work orders, and maintenance invoices
- Work or train at multiple facilities and distant locations
- Maintain and safely operate company vehicles, including inspections and required documentation
- Lead and participate in teams, coordinate assignments, and support work quality and timelines
- Develop and implement processes and practices to meet business needs
- Promote compliance with company policies, ethics, integrity, and safety standards
- Build relationships, mentor others, support inclusion, and deliver customer-focused results
Requirements
What you’ll need- Option 1: Vocational or technical HVAC/R certification and 2 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance or construction-related field for commercial HVAC/R and building controls
- Option 2: 4 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance or construction-related field for commercial HVAC/R and building controls or related field
- Hold and maintain Type I and Type II or Universal Environmental Protection Agency certification for refrigerant handling
- Where required, HVAC-R/Mechanical Journeyman qualification
- Valid state-issued driver’s license and ability to pass a motor vehicle report
- Commercial driving record with no DUI, DWI, or OUI convictions within the last five years
- No more than two moving violations in the last three years
- No preventable accidents while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three years
- No serious traffic violations under Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations in the last three years
- Ability to install, configure, calibrate, diagnose, and repair commercial HVAC/R systems
- Knowledge of building controls, schematics, wiring diagrams, building codes, OSHA standards, EPA 608 protocols, and HVAC/R regulations
- Ability to use heavy machinery, digital tools, scheduling systems, hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment
- Ability to lead field teams, mentor less-experienced technicians, communicate with customers, and work on-call
- Ability to work or train at multiple facilities or distant locations
