About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead end-to-end technical design for complex initiatives spanning API contracts, UI interfaces, data models, distributed-system topologies, and cross-cutting concerns
- Define and document reference architectures, design patterns, and implementation guardrails
- Evaluate and select technologies, frameworks, and cloud-native patterns for Walmart's operational scale
- Author and review RFCs and architecture decision records
- Write, test, deploy, and operate production-grade software
- Solve complex performance, reliability, and scalability problems
- Prototype solutions using AI-augmented development workflows and drive them to production quality
- Conduct deep-dive code reviews
- Own the full software development lifecycle for initiatives
- Lead technical investigations for P0/P1 incidents, own root-cause analysis, and define permanent fixes
- Challenge technical assumptions and structure ambiguous problems into technical approaches
- Define non-functional requirements and design resilient, deeply observable platforms
- Build runbooks and operational playbooks for service operations
- Drive technical strategy and next-generation risk platforms for Walmart Marketplace Trust
- Influence enterprise-wide technology decisions and architectural excellence across engineering teams
- Mentor and coach Staff and Principal Engineers
Requirements
What you’ll need- B.Tech., B.E., M.Tech., or M.S. in Computer Science or relevant discipline
- Minimum qualifications: bachelor's degree in a relevant computing field and 6 years' software engineering experience, or 8 years' software engineering experience
- 15+ years of experience designing and developing highly scalable distributed applications and platforms, especially multi-tenant SaaS products
- Experience as an architect of large engineering teams with 50+ engineers
- Deep understanding of Marketplace Risk Technology
- Demonstrated GenAI usage or proof-of-concepts
- Experience building Code, Deploy, Run pipelines using DevOps best practices and CI/CD tools
- Strong data structures, algorithms, and design-pattern fundamentals
- Ability to balance technical debt, modernization, and long-term versus short-term design implications
- Proficiency in at least two programming languages such as Java, Scala, or Golang
- Hands-on Microservices and RESTful web-services development in Java/NodeJS using SpringBoot, Dropwizard, or equivalent
- Knowledge of Kafka or RabbitMQ messaging systems
- In-depth knowledge of cloud-native and microservice architecture, service registries, ELK/Splunk, VMs, and related stacks
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
- Knowledge of at least one of Azure or Google Cloud Platform
- Demonstrated end-to-end ownership of multiple cloud-based projects with four-nines reliability
- Strong hands-on development skills for technical prototyping
- Proficiency in new and emerging technologies
- Exceptional negotiation, facilitation, consensus-building, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to influence and persuade without direct control
- Experience mentoring and coaching Staff and Principal Engineers
- Focus on reusable frameworks, patterns, and configuration tools
- Contributions to open source
- Practitioner of Agile methodology
