About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design, develop, and review scalable backend systems that operate at Walmart scale
- Build and enhance high-performing, resilient, and distributed systems for returns platforms
- Collaborate with architects and engineering teams to learn and apply best practices in scalability, performance, and system design
- Work closely with business and product teams to design solutions aligned with real-world use cases
- Gain hands-on experience in building sophisticated, large-scale systems across multiple Walmart business units
- Leverage open-source technologies and public cloud platforms to develop modern solutions
- Contribute to innovation initiatives and present ideas across broader engineering groups
- Mentor and support team members while fostering a strong engineering culture.
Requirements
What you’ll need- B.E/B.Tech/M.Tech/MS in Computer Science or related field
- 6+ years of experience in Java/J2EE, distributed databases, and Kafka with strong hands-on experience in multi-threading and functional programming
- Experience building and working with large-scale distributed systems
- Strong computer science fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, and problem-solving
- Solid debugging and troubleshooting skills
- Knowledge of SDLC best practices including coding standards, code reviews, CI/CD, testing, and operations
- Hands-on experience with microservices architecture, cloud technologies, and modern backend systems
- Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate technical solutions effectively
- Creative thinking and ability to contribute to product and UX improvements
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, GCP, or OpenStack
- Continuous learning mindset with focus on improving, optimizing, and automating systems
- Exposure to information retrieval, statistics, or machine learning is a plus.
