About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Drive the technical direction for Walmart’s experimentation backend services
  • Design, develop, and scale efficient and reliable systems and pipelines
  • Provide technical mentorship and elevate engineering culture
  • Partner with data scientists, product managers, and engineering leaders
  • Lead and participate in medium- to large-scale projects from requirements review through design, implementation, testing, troubleshooting, and delivery
  • Troubleshoot business and production issues and lead resolution plans
  • Provide business solutions through stakeholder partnerships and process management
  • Define the technical roadmap for experimentation platform services
  • Lead platform-level system design, architecture proposals, design reviews, and technical direction
  • Drive cross-organizational initiatives with analytics, platform, and product teams
  • Ensure operational excellence, incident mitigation, and root cause analysis
  • Mentor Staff Engineers and Senior Engineers
  • Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies through proof-of-concepts and adoption strategies
  • Advance code quality, automation, observability, and security best practices

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area; or 7 years’ experience in software engineering or related area
  • Proven technical leadership of a team of engineers
  • Experience designing, developing, testing, and maintaining large-scale systems
  • Expertise in one or more of Java, Scala, Lua, or Rust
  • Experience maintaining and deploying compute environments across local and cloud-based systems
  • Ability to proactively manage projects across multiple teams and troubleshoot issues
  • Ability to influence technical decisions across multiple teams or organizations
  • Strong strategic thinking
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Ability to identify emerging technologies and guide their adoption
  • Expertise in reliability engineering, observability, platform governance, and operational excellence for mission-critical systems
  • Preferred: experience with experimentation/A-B testing, feature flags and risk-mitigated deployments, data solutions and AI/ML products, and open-source frameworks, standards, or libraries
  • Ability to work in a drug-free workplace and comply with Walmart's no-tolerance policy regarding illegal drugs and alcohol on the job
