About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Provide technical leadership and vision for the design and development of highly concurrent, distributed backend systems;
Drive and own significant architectural decisions, ensuring scalability, reliability and maintainability across the platform;
Lead performance optimisation initiatives and resolve the most complex system-level challenges;
Set the standard for testing practices, including Unit, Integration and Smoke tests, enabling fully automated promotion of code to production;
Define, evolve and enforce coding standards and engineering best practices across the team;
Act as a technical mentor and leader, supporting the growth of engineers at all levels;
Collaborate closely with product and engineering leadership to align technical strategy with business goals;
Provide out-of-hours support as part of an on-call rota.

Requirements

What you’ll need

Extensive programming experience in Go (Golang) or deep expertise in JVM technologies (Java/Spring Boot) with a strong commitment to adopting Go;
Extensive, proven experience developing and maintaining enterprise-grade systems at scale;
Deep expertise in highly concurrent, distributed architectures and systems;
Extensive experience leading and owning architectural decisions at team and cross-team level;
Prior experience as a Team Lead or Tech Lead, with a track record of mentoring and growing engineering talent;
Experience with containerised applications and cloud-native infrastructure;
Expert-level performance profiling and optimisation skills;
Deep experience with relational and non-relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, Redis);
Exceptional communication and influencing skills, with the ability to align technical and non-technical stakeholders.
