About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Explain program rules and regulations to residents and facilitate observance of the rules
  • Coordinate meals, sleeping assignments, showers, laundering, and daily routines
  • Provide awake overnight shift coverage and maintain grounds security
  • Conduct hourly safety and security checks
  • De-escalate crises and provide emergency assistance to clients and co-workers
  • Maintain daily statistical reports, shift logs, observation logs, and incident reports
  • Perform housekeeping, maintenance, room preparation, and cleanliness tasks
  • Respond to client questions and concerns
  • Perform clerical duties including answering telephones, recording messages, and filing
  • Maintain clear communication with residents and program staff
  • Support staff in implementing resident assistance plans and model positive behavior
  • Monitor client concerns, program security, equipment, and supplies
  • Communicate with on-site staff, management, service providers, and government program representatives
  • Assist with orientation and training of new employees
  • Support program development and maintain knowledge of fire, safety, and health standards
  • Attend staff meetings and assigned training seminars and complete required certifications

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Ability to communicate and comprehend oral and written instructions
  • Ability to provide services without ethnic or social prejudices
  • General knowledge of issues related to homelessness, substance abuse, young adults, minorities, and persons with disabilities
  • Ability to use interventions for clients with varying needs and functioning levels
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours
  • Willingness to function as a team member
  • Computer skills preferred but not required
  • CPR and First Aid training within 90 days of employment, with recertification as necessary
  • Annual T.B. testing
  • Valid California driver’s license required to operate VOA vehicles
  • Teamwork skills

  • Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to safely maneuver a client’s weight distribution in an emergency
