About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • perform daily work requirements to achieve established objectives of the program
  • ongoing source of engagement, information sharing, and problem-solving for participants using trauma-informed, strength-based, compassionate, and professional approaches
  • explain program requirements and regulations to new participants and ensure compliance
  • continually reorients participants to rules, rights, and responsibilities
  • coordinate meal preparation/service, room assignments, and other daily routines
  • provide shift coverage and maintain navigation center security and safety, indoors and outdoors
  • provide emergency assistance to participants and co-workers as necessary within the scope of CPR and First Aid training
  • perform housekeeping and maintenance tasks as needed, i.e., change light bulbs, plunge toilet, clean up accidents/messes
  • prepare for new participants, including sanitizing beds and sleeping areas
  • clean and sanitize all common areas, including restrooms, laundry, and staff areas
  • assures toiletry and cleaning supplies are stocked and secured
  • address behavior issues creating disharmony, criminal, or otherwise non-productive behavior
  • de-escalate crises before they develop and respond appropriately
  • takes pertinent participant issues to the Whole Person Care team
  • role model positive and professional behavior, including appearance, and communication
  • complete all shift logs, observation logs, and incident reports
  • maintain daily reports to provide statistical information
  • assist in department orientation and training of new employees as requested

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • demonstrated ability to communicate and comprehend oral and written instructions
  • ability to provide services to difficult participants without ethnic or social prejudices
  • general knowledge of issues and challenges unique to homelessness, substance abuse, women, minorities, and persons with disabilities
  • specific knowledge and experience with mental illness, addiction and recovery, and dysfunctional family dynamics preferred
  • flexibility to work irregular hours
  • must be able to function both independently and in a team environment effectively
  • tact, discretion, and resourcefulness required at all times
  • CPR and First Aid training within ninety (90) days of employment
