Prep Cook
Volunteers of America Northern California and Northern NevadaPrep Cook responsible for assuring quality service in food preparation and meal serving at Volunteers of America. Engaging with participants and team members in a compassionate manner.
About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- assuring quality service to all program participants in a compassionate and professional manner
- preparing meals
- serving meals to clients at the designated programs
- receiving and inventorying foods, equipment and janitorial cleaning supplies
- demonstrating supportive interaction with program participants and team members
- performing all work duties as required
- performing cooking tasks for a variety of foods
- baking, roasting, broiling, and steaming a wide variety of meats, fish, poultry, and main dishes
- preparing and cooking sauces, soups, and gravies
- participating in the cleaning of dishes, pots, and kitchen equipment
- completing and maintaining all records, logs, safety logs, and incident reports
- assisting in the monitoring of the inventory of program equipment and supplies.
Requirements
What you’ll need- One year of related experience is preferred
- demonstrated ability to communicate and comprehend oral and written instructions
- General knowledge of issues and challenges unique to homelessness, substance abuse, young adults, minorities, and people with disabilities is preferred
- Principles, procedures, and equipment involved in the large-scale preparation of food
- Kitchen sanitation and safety measures used in the operation, cleaning, and care of utensils, equipment, and work areas
- Understand basic principles and practice of diets and nutrition
- Valid California driver's license and ability to meet the organization’s insurance carrier guidelines are required
- Must pass all required background clearances in accordance with agency, County, State, and federal standards
- CPR/First Aid certification is required within 90 days of employment
- Completion and maintenance of all required training and health clearances.
