About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assuring quality service in a safe, non-judgmental manner to all program participants
  • Supportive interaction with program participants and team members
  • Assessment of participants’ needs
  • Supporting the safety and the integrity of all residents
  • Performing daily work requirements to achieve established objectives of the department
  • Explaining program rules and regulations to residents
  • Coordinating meal preparation/service, bed/sleeping assignments, showers, laundering, and other daily routines
  • Providing “awake” shift coverage and maintaining grounds security at all times
  • Conducting hourly safety and security checks during designated periods
  • De-escalating crisis before it develops and responding to crisis in an appropriate manner
  • Maintaining daily reports to provide statistical information
  • Performing housekeeping and other maintenance tasks as needed
  • Responding to all client questions and concerns
  • Performing clerical duties on shift
  • Maintaining clear, thorough, routine communication with all residents
  • Supporting VOA staff in implementing plans to assist the residents in successful completion of the program
  • Role modeling positive behavior to help clients work towards self-sufficiency
  • Documenting and reporting all client concerns and/or infractions
  • Completing all shift logs, observation logs, and incident reports
  • Monitoring inventory of program equipment and supplies
  • Communicating with on-site staff, Program Supervisor, service providers and external county/state/city program representatives as required
  • Maintaining an above average working knowledge of fire, safety, and health standards
  • Assisting Program Supervisor in department orientation and training of new employees

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and comprehend oral and written instructions
  • General knowledge of issues and challenges unique to homelessness, substance abuse, young adults, minorities, and people with disabilities
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours
  • Ability to function as a team member
  • Computer skills required
  • Valid California driver's license and ability to meet the organization’s insurance carrier guidelines
  • Must pass all required background clearances in accordance with agency, County, State, and federal standards
  • CPR/First Aid certification required within 90 days of employment
  • Completion and maintenance of all required training and health clearances.
