About the role

  • End-to-end design, implementation, and operation of our high-throughput proxy gateway services, with primary focus on modernizing our Java-based SMTP gateway.
  • Develop robust Kubernetes microservices and maintain GitHub Actions pipelines; scale and deploy.
  • Expand gateway capabilities across SMTP, AWS S3, and SQL (via Apache Trino).
  • Balance reliability and performance with feature enhancements, security hardening, and operational excellence across all PEPs.
  • Collaborate in a growing team; knowledge sharing is valued, code reviews, debugging sessions, and technical discussions.
  • Define multi-quarter roadmap; infrastructure-as-code, observability, and security controls.

Requirements

  • Java (≥ 5 yrs)
  • Familiarity with, or desire to learn Go
  • Exposure to one or more of the following protocols: SMTP, S3 API, SQL
  • Experience with Apache Trino, AWS S3, or similar technologies is a plus
  • Exposure to cryptography preferred
  • Linux administration, shell scripting, networking fundamentals
  • GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines
  • Docker & Kubernetes; containerization best practices, cloud-native deployments
  • Deploy and operate highly available, scalable SaaS in DevOps environments
  • Observability (Datadog); monitoring and logging
  • Security: API security, token management, data protection
