About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Provide direct individual and group support to people with brain injury or behavioral conditions in residential settings
Teach skills that enhance independence and quality of life
Ensure a safe, secure, and clean residential environment overnight
Implement treatment programs, including ISP/PSTPs and clinical programs, and participate in treatment planning
Maintain records, collect behavior and academic data, write progress notes, and document incidents and routine activities
Train and support persons served with activities of daily living, including showering, hygiene, dressing, and household chores
Conduct and document fire and safety training
Monitor physical and emotional needs and report changes to the supervisor
Store, administer, document, and dispose of medication according to MAP requirements and policy
Attend mandated training and staff meetings; assist with new-staff orientation
Perform housekeeping, snow shoveling, garbage removal, transportation, and site maintenance as needed
Maintain required staff-to-person-served ratios and provide last-minute coverage
Provide physical intervention and/or first aid during behavioral or medical emergencies
Serve as a reporter to the Disabled Persons Protections Commission
Remain awake, alert, and dressed throughout the entire overnight shift
Perform other related duties as required

Requirements

What you’ll need

High school diploma or GED required
Experience working with people with developmental disabilities, behavioral conditions and/or brain injury strongly preferred
Strong time management and writing skills
Must be at least 21 years of age
Current, valid US driver's license maintained for at least 6 months; driving is required
Ability to become CPR and First Aid certified within 2 weeks of employment
Ability to become MAP certified within 150 days of employment
Ability to become PBS Tier 1 certified within 150 days of employment
Ability to become Safety Care certified within 90 days of employment
Must successfully pass CORI, reference, national fingerprinting, driving record, and driver's screening background checks
Knowledge and use of different communication styles
Knowledge of empowerment and self-advocacy techniques
Knowledge of participatory planning techniques
Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques
Teaching skills
Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team
Sensitivity to cultural, religious, racial, disability, and gender issues
Knowledge and use of advocacy techniques
Knowledge of required physical personal management skills
Knowledge of required household management skills
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, lift at least 25 pounds, operate a computer, assist clients with daily living tasks, and communicate with clients and staff
