About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide direct service and daily routine and episodic nursing aide care to individuals with developmental disabilities and complex health needs
  • Assist with activities of daily living, including vital signs, toileting, showering, dressing, wound care, foot care, skin checks, laundry, and passive range of motion exercises
  • Monitor individuals for changes in physical, mental, or emotional status
  • Administer medications and treatments according to MAP guidelines and Vinfen policies
  • Provide for nutritional needs
  • Transport, assist, and accompany individuals to medical, dental, and other appointments
  • Maintain safe, clean, welcoming, respectful, and compliant environments
  • Document nursing care, medication administration, daily shift notes, incident reports, and medication errors
  • Communicate status changes and other information to managers, colleagues, staff, families, guardians, and providers
  • Safely use and maintain assistive and medical equipment, including wheelchairs, Hoyer lifts, glucometers, nebulizers, and oxygen
  • Support participation in home, program, and community events
  • Encourage and respect individual preferences and choices; advocate for individuals served
  • Develop relationships with individuals, families, guardians, and significant others
  • Collaborate with Vinfen departments, outside agencies, and community providers
  • Attend staff, training, and community meetings
  • Act as a positive role model and assist with orientation of new staff
  • Adhere to Vinfen policies and perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Prior experience as a C.N.A., preferably with people with developmental disabilities
  • A high school diploma or equivalent required
  • Valid C.N.A. license in state of service required
  • CPR required within two weeks of hire
  • First Aid required within two weeks of hire
  • MAP required within 150 days of hire
  • Safety Care required within 90 days of hire
  • Valid driver’s license required at time of employment
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Maintained a valid US driver’s license for at least six months
  • Pass a driver’s screening background check
  • Adequate insurance and safe driving record if using a personal vehicle
  • Ability to perform physically active duties, assist with activities of daily living, and lift at least 25 pounds
  • Ability to operate a computer and office equipment
  • Skills and competencies of a C.N.A.
  • Knowledge of developmental disabilities, documentation standards, personal computer applications, empowerment and self-advocacy techniques, and teaching modalities
  • Ability to communicate verbally and document nursing care accurately and effectively
  • Ability to work collaboratively, balance competing priorities, make independent judgments, and work confidentially
  • Sensitivity to cultural, religious, ethnic, disability, and gender issues
