About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Screen, assess, and reassess substance use, addiction risk, and addiction treatment needs using SSI-SA and other assessments.
  • Develop formulations addressing substance use level and risk, current impact of substances or addictive behavior, and readiness for change.
  • Provide direct interventions and supports to Persons Served with substance misuse/addiction.
  • Employ trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, person-centered, culturally competent, and strengths-based approaches.
  • Provide evidence-based addictions treatment, including Motivational Interviewing, Stages of Change, Harm Reduction, Relapse Prevention, SBIRT, Seeking Safety, WRAP, and Cognitive Behavioral interventions.
  • Develop Safety Plans and Crisis Prevention and Response Plans.
  • Refer Persons Served and coordinate with Care Coordination entities to promote access to MAT, dual recovery groups, acute addictions treatment, self-help, peer support, and psycho-educational services.
  • Provide addictions treatment psycho-educational services individually and in groups.
  • Participate as a member of intervention teams for assigned Persons Served.
  • Train, mentor, supervise, and model evidence-based addictions treatment and recovery-oriented interventions for GLE/SIE staff.
  • Document Persons Served needs and services thoroughly.
  • Promote engagement, safe housing, community tenure, self-sufficiency, and successful service completion.
  • Promote access to healthcare, employment, and education services.
  • Participate in the Addiction Recovery Counselor Community of Practice Workgroup for supervision, competency development, mentoring, and learning.
  • Receive regularly scheduled, role-based clinical supervision from the Assistant Team Leader.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.
  • Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor or Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (LADC 1, LADC II, CADC I, or CADC II) in Massachusetts required.
  • Clinical experience working with people with co-occurring disorders or addictions preferred.
  • Must have access to an operational and insured vehicle and be willing to use it to transport PS.
  • A valid driver's license must be presented at the time of employment.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must have maintained a valid US driver's license for at least six months.
  • Must pass a driver's screening background check.
  • CPR required within first two weeks of hire.
  • First Aid required within two weeks of hire.
  • MAP required within 150 days of hire.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, lift at least 25 pounds, operate a computer and office equipment, and assist PS with activities of daily living.
  • Knowledge of addiction treatment principles, modalities, best practices, and evidence-based practices.
  • Knowledge of Motivational Interviewing, Stages of Change, Harm Reduction, SSI-SA, SBIRT, Housing First, Seeking Safety, WRAP, Cognitive Behavioral interventions, acute Addiction Treatment practices, and Medication Assisted Treatment.
  • Knowledge of risk management, trauma-informed and culturally competent services, emergency services, acute care addictions systems, and community-based mental health and healthcare resources.
  • Ability to formulate treatment plans, train staff, provide leadership on substance misuse/addictions issues, and build supportive relationships with PS.
