About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Promote engagement, hope, integration, and functioning of Persons Served in the community
- Welcome, orient, and engage referred Persons Served and initiate intake within 72 hours
- Collaborate with LPHA clinicians to determine needed services
- Share personal recovery experiences and provide support, education, advocacy, and transition assistance
- Connect Persons Served with healthcare, employment, housing, recovery, community, and mutual-help resources
- Facilitate Peer Support and Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) groups
- Implement peer-support-oriented treatment-plan interventions and maintain documentation
- Help develop self-advocacy, daily living, coping, self-management, and recovery skills
- Strengthen relationships with chosen family and friends and build recovery networks
- Teach, consult, and collaborate with Team members on recovery-oriented practices
- Onboard, orient, coach, train, mentor, and supervise Team Peer Specialists
- Model Motivational Interviewing, Harm Reduction, Housing First, Stages of Change, trauma-informed, culturally competent, and strengths-based approaches
- Lead the Team’s Peer Specialists’ efforts to organize and deliver Peer Support
- Visit all GLEs and SIE settings regularly to provide Peer Support
- Meet regularly with the Team Leader to review performance and resolve Peer Specialist issues
- Participate in the Lead Peer Specialist Community of Practice Workgroup and provide input on policy and program development
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- One to three years’ experience providing peer support to people with psychiatric disability and/or cooccurring disorders required
- Personal, first-hand experience being a recipient of the mental health system
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required
- Bachelor’s degree from accredited school or Associate’s degree strongly preferred
- Experience may be substituted for academic training in some cases
- Valid driver's license presented at employment
- At least 21 years of age
- Valid US driver's license maintained for at least six months
- Adequate insurance if using a personal vehicle
- Safe driving record and ability to pass a driver's screening background check
- CPR required within first two weeks of hire
- First Aid required within two weeks of hire
- Must become a Certified Peer Specialist OR obtain Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery “Recovery Coach Academy” certificate of completion within 6 months of hire
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, lift at least 25 pounds, operate a computer and office equipment, assist Persons Served with daily living tasks, and communicate with others
- Knowledge of Peer Support practices, ethical standards, person-centered and recovery-oriented approaches, engagement techniques, advocacy, community resources, and personal computer applications
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, balance competing priorities, and make independent judgments and decisions
- Commitment to confidentiality and sensitivity to cultural, religious, ethnic, disability, and gender differences
